Bye Bye B.O. : Armpit Detox

I sweat A LOT.  I get super cold, super quick; but I can also break a sweat in the blink of an eye. My body is weird like that. Now, sweating itself doesn’t bother me, it’s natural and our bodies need to do it for many reasons. But, what I am absolutely NOT okay with: stinking. That just ain’t cute! Throughout the years I have, inconsistently, tried different all natural deodorant options, only to go right back to using ones which contain antiperspirants. It seemed the natural stuff just couldn’t keep me smelling fresh. But, with all that I have learned over time about how bad conventional deodorants are due to the chemicals that they contain, I still really wanted to somehow make the switch and make it for good. Those conventional deodorants we smear/spay on our armpits everyday more than likely contain aluminum, parabens, propylene glycol, phthalates, triclosan, as well as other toxins which mimic Estrogen in our bodies. Some studies have also shown that all these harmful chemicals can lead to/or increase the risk of Breast Cancer. This is SCARY if you think about it!

We detox our bodies, we detox our faces … shouldn’t we detox our armpits as well?! Yes, we should! If you want to make the switch and have a better transitional phase to using all natural deodorants, or for those lucky few, no deodorant at all, try detoxing those pits!

Just like any other detox, an armpit detox has plenty of benefits. Some of which include :

-Drawing out toxins 
-Reducing body odor 
-Boosting lymphatic circulation
-May reduce the risk of breast cancer 
-Reducing sweat 

For the detox paste you will need:

1 Tbsp Bentonite Clay
1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
1-2 Tsp Clean filtered water 
Non-Metal Bowl 
Non-Metal Stirrer (wooden/plastic spoon- super important)

Method: Combine 1 Tbsp Bentonite Clay with 1 Tbsp ACV and 1-2 Tsp Water in the nonmetal bowl. This is very important! To put it short and sweet (and non-scientific) as to why the non-metal bowl is so important: metal reacts with the bentonite clay and takes away its healing/detoxing properties. Smear an even layer over your armpits and find yourself a comfy spot to relax for 10-20 minutes while keeping your arms up. I usually lay on my bed. Then remove the paste either in the shower or with a wet, warm washcloth. Just a forewarning, the stuff can crumble so don’t lay on that cashmere blanket you have at home!

Now, like I said this helps during the TRANSITIONAL PHASE. Which means, there will be a period of time where things won’t be all roses and daisies. In the beginning, I used the detox 2-3 times a week for a month and now just once a week or every other week. Just stay patient and keep detoxing! Also, try different deodorants until you find what works for you and sooner than later you will be a #naturalista !

    I am right there with you regarding the natural options! I have found one that works if I apply it two times a day but who has time for that! I find myself keeping a “backup” dove deodorant for days I have something important to do. Thanks for this recipe, I will definitely be trying it!

    Question: By doing this detox are you saying that you don’t wear deodorant on the days in between?

      Hi! Oh that’s awesome! Yes, finding the right one is a serious struggle. I still find myself exploring new options. I still use deodorant daily. I haven’t been one of the fortunate few that has been able to stop using it completely :/ but as long as I’m fresh, I’m okay with that !
